In spite of bitter cold weather, more than 60 families with newborns came to St. Joseph’s Parish Hall to celebrate Lynn Community Health Center’s 17th annual Baby’s First Christmas Party. Since 1996, the Health Center has been hosting this event, where families celebrate the holiday season by dining together with LCHC staff, enjoying music and crafts, and every new Mom receives gifts for her children. In recent years, thanks to a generous donor, each family has also been given a $10 gift certificate to Shaw’s Market.
“This is my favorite event of the year,” said LCHC Obstetrician Kristen Cotter. “I love looking out at the room and seeing all of the moms we have taken care of this year. Many have had very complex pregnancies, and to see them with healthy babies is deeply moving.”
The event was co-chaired by Christine Cowden and Stephanie Connolly, who worked with a group of dedicated volunteers all fall to ensure a terrific event. All gifts were donated, as was much of the food. Staff and volunteers raise money cover the remaining costs.
In 2012, the Lynn Community Health Center’s Ob/Gyn department delivered over 450 babies. “Baby’s First” is one way for parents to stay connected to their providers, and see the Health Center as a resource for building healthy lives.
- After Santa’s “grand entrance,” each family received a gift and had the opportunity for a photo with Santa.
- Volunteers took photographs, gave out presents, held babies, and served food.
- LCHC pediatricians and obstetricians were on hand to celebrate with their patients.
- In spite of the bitter cold, over 60 families enjoyed the day.
